PC Symposium Invitation

Palliative Care Symposium Regarding Expanding Access to Care

I am inviting you to participate in a symposium on expanding access to palliative care services and supports for children, adults, older adults and their caregivers in New York State. The symposium will be held on May 22, 2024 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at the University at Albany, SUNY - ETEC building.

The focus of this symposium will be sharing and obtaining feedback on a draft proposal for future policy recommendations to support the sustainability and scalability of palliative care services for NYS Medicaid members.

Palliative care, when done well, is of high value to people with serious illness, their loved ones, and the professionals who treat them. Importantly, in addition to the improvement in quality of care, health outcomes, and overall satisfaction with care, palliative care is cost effective, rendering it a comprehensive win for any community. Palliative care, therefore, could significantly improve how we in New York care for some of our most complex and seriously ill adults, children, and their caregivers. Join us and provide your feedback on these policy recommendations to support palliative care for NYS Medicaid members.

The Steering Committee leading this initiative is soliciting community input on their proposed policy recommendations.  Your opinions and feedback can influence how recommendations regarding palliative care are designed and implemented, and we hope you will participate. There will be seven major topic areas of focus for small group discussions led by facilitators:

1. Eligibility - eligible conditions

2. Health Equity - addressing the medical, behavioral, and social needs of diverse and underserved populations

3. Services -disciplines, types, and frequency of palliative care services

4. Provider Training and Capabilities

5. Payments - reimbursement model and dual eligible considerations

6. Quality - monitoring outcomes and performance measures

7. Pediatrics - special considerations for the pediatric population

This event will provide numerous opportunities for participants to provide feedback.

Please feel free to share this invitation
