CareFirst provides home care nursing services – home health aides services – training for family members in patient care – management of pain & other distressing symptoms (Palliative Care) – services of specially trained volunteers – arrangement for short-term hospital care when needed – necessary medical equipment & supplies – dietary & other consultations – emotional and spiritual support – bereavement counseling for the family. Palliative treatment would be conducted when ‘curative’ treatments (surgery, radiation/chemotherapy or procedures done to cure, arrest disease or simply to prolong life) have been exhausted or no longer desired. This could be a part of our normal hospice care. However where the disease is not terminal, an individual could qualify for a specific palliative or ‘symptom management’ care program.
