Director of Nursing

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the leadership of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley as a member of the Management Team
  • Provide leadership and supervision for nurses and other clinical staff
  • Supervise the admission process, including providing consultation to other nurses on difficult cases
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise clinical staff
  • Arrange and manage services to patients provided by consultants
  • Conduct meetings of the Interdisciplinary Groups
  • Assure that admission, certification, services, and discharge meet the requirements of the Medicare Conditions of Participation and other regulatory bodies
  • Orient new nursing and other clinical staff
  • Organize and conduct clinical skills trainings for direct care staff and RNs
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for hospice clinical services
  • Monitor use of pharmaceuticals, nursing and therapeutic procedures, and medical equipment
  • Provide training on patient care issues to volunteers
  • Represent the clinical program in meetings with state and regional peer groups
  • Assist with primary nursing and on call as needed
  • Provide regular opportunities for all staff, clients, and constituents to give feedback and improve service delivery outcomes.

BSN with nursing management or supervisory experience and a proven track record in leading, managing and motivating clinical staff.
