The Caregiver Action Network (CAN) is a nonprofit organization providing education, peer support, and resources to family caregivers across the country free of charge. They serve a broad spectrum of family caregivers ranging from the parents of children with special needs, to the families and friends of wounded soldiers; from a young couple dealing with a diagnosis of MS, to adult children caring for parents with Alzheimer’s disease. Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program
The Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) is part of the New York State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and provides free, accurate and unbiased consumer help with Medicare, managed care, Medigap insurance, long-term care insurance and more for Medicare beneficiaries, their families and others. It receives federal funds from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to operate a statewide network of local programs. HIICAP assists Medicare beneficiaries to access needed health care and to apply for programs such as the Medicare Savings Programs and the Medicare Advantage Programs. HIICAP counselors also educate about Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, EPIC, and other health insurance options and issues.

New York Connects’ trained Information and Assistance Specialists provide individualized information and assistance and connects individuals of all ages needing long-term services and support, as well as their caregivers, to the services and support they need to maintain independence to the extent possible, regardless of payment source.
