University Hospice is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to meet the needs of terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones, by providing comprehensive palliative (comfort) care focusing on physical, social, emotional and spiritual support. Hospice care is delivered in the home, nursing facility, and the in-patient setting. University Hospice serves Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens. University Hospice is licensed by the State of New York and is certified by Medicare and Medicaid. University Hospice is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Association (NHPCO), the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State (HPCANYS) and is accredited by the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). This year, in response to the growing community need of our aging population, University Hospice is expanding its services and building upon its 25-year history with the opening of The Addeo Hospice Residence. Located on the grounds of Eger Health Care Center, the free-standing residence is the first of its kind in Staten Island. It offers a warm environment, a compassionate, homelike alternative for those in need of Hospice care and who are unable to return to their own home. The residence includes 8 beds. For more information regarding the University Hospice program and its many services, please contact 718-226-6450. Tours of The Addeo Hospice Residence are also available.
