Welcome

Springtime in upstate New York brings us together for HPCANYS 28th Annual Interdisciplinary Meeting and Conference. Once again, our program is designed to provide opportunities for networking, education, and thoughtful discussion about end-of-life care.

I am delighted to welcome Andrew Reed, CPA, President of Multi View Incorporated, as our keynote speaker. Andrew is perhaps the most influential person in the United States regarding the business operations of hospice. He has introduced many service innovations that have improved not only economic performance, but patient care as well. He has assisted in the creation of some of the most successful hospice business models centered around the ideas of World Class Hospice and Designing the Perfect Hospice. Andrew also is an artist, an unusual attribute for a CPA. He is a songwriter affiliated with the Society of European Stage, Authors and Composers. His works have been recorded by numerous artists in the United States and abroad.

Friday morning's plenary speaker will help you to readjust your outlook by seeing the humor in life. Dr. Joel Goodman's presentation focuses on how adding humor to your daily routine at home, at work or in your community can have a profound effect on your life. Described as the "first full time humor educator in the world," Joel founded the Humor Project in 1977, as well as AHA!, the American Humor Association. He is a sought-after speaker and the author of eight "jest selling" books.

This year, we are offering thirty workshops covering topics such as pain and symptom management in hospice and palliative care, the challenges of underserved populations, and getting the best from your interdisciplinary team. Our Annual Meeting Committee has worked hard to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Exhibitors from across the country will be on hand to discuss their products and services. Join us for hors d'oeuvres at the close of Thursday's concurrent session and our Exhibitors' Cocktail reception. Another opportunity to meet and network with the exhibitors is offered again at breakfast on Friday morning.

You will meet the HPCANYS staff who will be present to answer questions, provide directions and attend to all of your conference needs.

We look forward to seeing you May 15th and 16th, 2008 at the Saratoga Hotel for our 28th Annual Interdisciplinary Seminar and Meeting, "Threads In The Fabric: Working Together for Quality Hospice and Palliative Care."

Kathy A. McMahon, President & CEO
